Why is bridal makeup usually light?

It's not. It's usually heavy, to stand up to flash photography.

If you're talking about the shades involved, most brides are trying to look innocent on their wedding day (the white dress, the veil, etc.). To wear vixen-dark hues (deep purples and reds) would contradict this theme. Why is bridal makeup usually light?
They are usually watching what they are eating, and their hormones are USUALLY under control, and they are trying hard a while in advance to look perfect, and by their wedding day, their skin is pretty clear, so they don't need it (: that would be my guess. Why is bridal makeup usually light?
So they look naturally beautiful and not all made up.
Bridal Makeup is most times lighter looking for a reason. The Bridal Makeup industry is following in the footsteps of Hollywood and leaning toward Airbrush makeup.

airbrush makeup goes on lighter, doesn't cake and provides better coverage than traditional makeup. It is applied with an airbrush and therefore will not have sponge or brush lines that usually show up in High Definition photography.

Airbrush can even flawlessly cover tattoos and major skin blemishes as well without the appearance of being cakey.

If you want to see some examples, this is a great website based out of Hawaii that does over 400 wedding makeup applications a year. http://www.makeup808.com
it usually isnt light. it is really heavy so when the pictures show after the wedding, you can still tell they are wearing makeup and look really pretty.
